Overview: Platform Tech Specs
Updated over 6 months ago

To ensure the best experience when using and interacting with the SimGate platform, please follow these tech specs.

As of Q2'24

Browser Support

Here is a complete list of the browsers we support across the entire SimGate platform.

  • Development environment (Portal & Studio)

    • Chrome or Edge may be used

    • For the best experience, Creators should have a minimum display resolution of 1280x960 and use a full-size laptop or monitor.

    • Desktop and Laptops are supported - we recommend a minimum of 11" display.

  • Deployment environment (SimPlayer & Dashboard)

    • Chrome or Edge may be used

    • Desktop and Laptops are supported - we recommend a minimum of 11" display.

    • For the best experience, Learners and Facilitators should follow the Display Resolution guidelines below and use a full-size laptop or monitor. Simulation learning is best experienced in a desktop environment due to the specialized design of sim interactions and reports for this environment.

Ideal Learning Experience Specs (for course delivery)

For the best learning experience and to minimize scrolling, we recommend that you advise Learners/Users to:

  • Set display resolution to the highest setting that a display will support.

  • Ensure that the display resolution’s scale is set to 100% or at most 125% - any higher will distort the size of text relative to other page elements.

  • Use a full-sized laptop or desktop.

    • Both Desktops and Laptops are supported, however, larger screen sizes afford a better user experience. Therefore, we recommend a minimum of 11" display, though larger is better!

      • Mobile devices are not supported or recommended for use during the deployment/delivery of courses.

Display Resolution

  • The minimum display resolution for SimPlayer course delivery is 1280x960.

    • However, the higher your display resolution the more you'll be able to see on your screen without scrolling.

    • i.e. Our “recommended” setting is 1920x1080 or higher with a minimum of 1280x960.

Scale

  • Our system is designed to support system scale settings of 100% along with browser scale settings of 100%.

    • Scale settings of 150% or more will distort the size of text relative to other page elements.

  • System settings scale everything: the Slack window, your toolbar, the browser nav bar, the browser content, the size of icons on the desktop, etc.

  • Browser settings scale the content within the Chrome window.

“Browser resolution is too small” warning message

  • Below this 1280x960 setting, if your system and browser scale settings are in conflict, or your zoom is set too high, it can impact the viewable content and will trigger this warning message. The user will see a message in the lower-left corner of the screen indicating they may not be able to see all page elements as designed.

When launching courses via the LMS

  • LMSs usually launch courses within a pop-up window - this window is often too small requiring learners to take it full screen and adjust the zoom on their browsers.

Minimize Scrolling

  • We have the above-recommended display specs to ensure an optimized experience and minimize the need to scroll for learners/users while taking courses (via SimGate SimPlayer and via a client's LMS).

  • Note: In Studio, in "Preview" and "Reviewer" mode, creators and reviewers will notice that the navigation bar takes up more space than in production mode, so you will have more "real estate" once it's published.

FAQ

How long do I have before the platform times me out and prompts me to log back in?

After 25 minutes of no activity, a message displays that the user will be logged out after another 5 minutes. After those 5 minutes (30 minutes total) a reload message appears.

What if I'm having trouble accessing SimGate URLs?

You may have to contact your IT department to request regis-co.com to be whitelisted as an allowable site.

  • Firewall Rules to Allow

    • Contact your IT Department to Advise to request that they: whitelist/allowlist *.regis-co.com

    • Verification emails are coming from:

    • *If the IT administrator will not whitelist our site, then the user will need to use a different internet connection, like their home connection.

    • If pictures or assets fail to load, but all other data is loading, then clients will need to whitelist the CDN URL: cdn.regis-co.com

What devices can a learner use to take the course?

Learners can take courses via:

  • PC or Mac

  • Chrome or Edge Browser

  • Desktop, Laptop, or Large Tablet (11"+ display)

    • The SimGate platform uses a responsive web design to address usage on various-sized displays. In smaller/mobile displays, some interactions will function fine, however not all portions of the content may be visible without scrolling, zooming in or out, or changing from portrait to landscape view. This is why the ideal learner experience is on a full-size laptop or monitor.

Do you support mobile devices?

At this time, our platform is not optimized for mobile devices. Simulation learning is most effective when experienced on a desktop due to the specialized design of sim interactions and reports for this environment. Therefore, we are actively concentrating our ongoing development efforts on optimization for the desktop, our native environment. This focus allows us to bring a wider range of innovative SimGate features to both you and the market.

NOTE: Because the platform uses a responsive web design to address usage on smaller displays, some interactions will function fine on these, however, we do not support mobile universally as the optimal experience is Chrome or Edge on Desktop or many larger Tablet environments.

If you need content to play optimally on phone-sized devices, this will take extra attention to layout design, template usage, and mobile testing before your deployment.

What languages does SimGate support?

English is the default language supported across all of the SimGate tools. Language translation and support are on our roadmap for 2024 for SimGate Studio. Below outlines the current state of the SimGate platform language capabilities:

  • Content: In terms of content, any (L-R) language can be typed into Studio, however, there is no platform-enabled way to have English language content "auto convert" into another language.

    • You CAN use Rex, our built-in AI co-author that is present in all Rich Text Editors within Studio, can create text content in many languages or translate it - however, as with any AI-generated content, it will need to be reviewed by a human for accuracy.

  • Converting courses to multiple languages: Currently, this is manually managed by duplicating a sim and replacing the English content with the alternate language provided by a partner of some sort (whether ReX, GoogleTranslate, or Vendor).

  • UI elements: Currently, English is the default language supported for the core UI elements in SimGate, however, you can translate buttons and labels as needed.

  • Learners: Currently, there is no platform-enabled way for a learner to choose in which language they want to take their course.

    • You CAN have multiple versions of a course translated into different languages and manage this within the SimGate Dashboard and/or via your LMS.
