How To: Define "Completion" State for LMS
How To: Define "Completion" State for LMS
Updated over a week ago

Creators can choose when a learner's completion status is triggered and sent to their LMS, allowing for complete flexibility and control of the learning experience and data capture.

Overview of "Completion State"

  • A "Completion State" is the screen/state within a project that triggers a learner's status as officially complete with the course and this status, along with a score (if specified) is sent back to the LMS. This is often, but not always, the last screen of a project.

  • In Studio project settings, creators can use logic to specify which state sends the completion status and score to the LMS.

    • Creators can select any specific state to send LMS completion status.

    • If nothing is defined, the last page in the project is the default.

FAQ

How do I define which state is my "LMS Completion State"?

How do I define which metric is my "LMS Scoring Metric"?

LMS Completion Success %

  • This is the percentage that is considered a "passing score".

    • The completion success rate must be between 0-100 (%)

      • Ex. If your learner passes with an 80%, you will put 80 in this box.

        • SimGate will auto-calculate if the learner passes based on the possible maximum score (below)

LMS Possible Maximum Score

  • This is the maximum possible score a learner can earn and is directly related to your chosen scoring metric.

    • It is the accumulation of all points that can be earned from this metric.

      • Ex. If your learner can earn a maximum of 72 points for this metric - you will put 72 in this box.

        • SimGate will auto-calculate if the learner earns 80% or higher based on this possible maximum score.

How do I use Completion State with Review & Retake?

Pairing this functionality with "review & retake" options is a powerful way to allow learners to go back to the beginning (or any previous state) and review or retake part or all of the course, without compromising their original score/attempt.

  • Depending upon the learning goals, this configuration could make sense to provide learners the opportunity to review their choices or retake the course for practice and still trigger the learner's first attempt as "complete" and/or to capture the learner's first, baseline score.

  • When needed to retain the original score/attempt, you can bypass the "completion state" on subsequent attempts using branching logic:
