This document aims to help you become familiar with and establish a common understanding of the language in SimGate Studio and the SimGate Dashboard.
ACTIVITY
An activity is a task the learner needs to complete within the simulation or eLearning.
ASSETS + ASSET MANAGER
An asset is a file that you upload into the simulation or eLearning. This can include images, videos, PDFs, etc. You upload assets into the asset manager.
FLOW EDITOR
The wireflow shows all the activities and how they connect, or branch, within a Round. The wireflow is also where you build the simulation or eLearning.
INTERFACE
The interface allows you to change the “theme” of the simulation or eLearning. You can also add buttons to the top navigation bar of the simulation, such as Resources and/or Results.
PAGES
A page contains an activity. You can access used and unused pages within the “Pages” tab in the top right navigation of the simulation or eLearning wire flow.
A “used” page is attached to a state within the wire flow
An “unused” page is not attached to a state within the wire flow.
PREVIEW
Use the preview function to see your simulation or eLearning as it will appear to the learner.
PROJECT
A project is a simulation, eLearning, or experiential learning solution that learners can complete.
PUBLISH
When your simulation or eLearning is complete you will publish it, so the learners can access it.
ROUND
A round is a series of activities within a simulation or eLearning.
SCORING
Scoring refers to how each decision in your simulation or eLearning is “measured.” Within Scoring you can add points to each decision + answer option based on your learning objectives. For synchronous learning, scores can show up in a report.
STATES
A state contains a page that has an activity within the simulation or eLearning wire flow.
STUDIO
SimGate™ Studio is where you build, edit and preview a simulation or eLearning.
THEME BUILDER
You access the theme builder from the Interface. Here you can change the colors, branding and style of your simulation or eLearning.
WAIT STATE
A wait state is used in synchronous learning between rounds. Typically, at a wait state, a facilitator will lead a live (or live-virtual) discussion or debrief about the learning. Then the facilitator will advance the learners to the next round.
ADMINISTRATORS
See super admin, project admin, and region admin.
ADVANCE FUNCTION
If a simulation or eLearning has a wait state, then an admin or facilitator will need to use the advanced function to move learners to the next round.
DASHBOARD
The dashboard is where you set up sessions, create users, and access dashboard reports.
ENROLLED SESSIONS
An enrolled session is a session a learner has access to.
FACILITATOR
A facilitator is a user who leads the learning process in a synchronous simulation. They can view active, upcoming, or ended sessions to which they are assigned. They can see a learner's progress through the simulation and can advance or reset a learner. They can create a session (if they have project admin access), add users, add teams, and view the dashboard report.
PARTICIPANT
A participant is a user who is the learner and only has access to their own courses/sessions. They will not have access to features that facilitators or admins have.
PERMISSIONS
Permissions are what a user is able to do in the dashboard. This includes: creating a user, team, or session, and advancing a learner.
PROJECT ADMIN
A project admin has full access to all sessions and users within a specific project.
REGION ADMIN
A region admin has full access to all sessions and users within a specific region.
REPORT
A report (also known as a decision report) shows data from the simulation or eLearning. This includes scores, and/or selected answers from a user. The learner cannot view a report; a report is only accessible to admins.
SESSION
A session is used for synchronous learning each time the simulation or eLearning is deployed. You can create as many sessions as you need to.
SUPER ADMIN
A super admin has full access and functionality for all sessions and users. They can give “permissions” to administrators and facilitators. They can also change passwords. Super admins have the highest level of permissions.
TEAM
A team is a group of users who complete the simulation together. They only have access to their own courses/sessions. They will not have access to features that facilitators or admins have. The dashboard creates a team as a “fake user.”
USER
A user is anyone who can access the simulation or dashboard. A user is assigned permissions in the dashboard. A user can be a participant, team, admin, super admin, or facilitator.
