Overview: Decision Rationale [Add-On]
Updated over a week ago

The Decision Rationale add-on is designed to assess higher cognitive abilities by allowing participants to detail why certain choices were made.

After selecting their answer choice in a decision-making activity, participants input a rationale for the option that compelled them before continuing on.

  • Why did the participant believe the choice they made should be correct?

  • Did the user appropriately think through the implications of the chosen solution?

  • Are they able to defend their decision with an appropriate “why”?

DESIGN USAGE

The Decision Rationale add-on is used with any activity to capture a participant's rationale (why they made the decision they made) for any Activity. Though it's called Decision Rationale, it can also be used to capture a participant's prediction (what they think will happen as a result of their decision) or capture their reflection (how did their team come up with a decision).

  • Add to an activity where you want a participant to predict what they think will happen (or indicate why they hope it will happen).

  • Use activities that will be used in debriefs so that facilitators can refer to them.

  • Use activities that you want participants to process their thinking - for example: how did the participant get to a decision, and why did the participant choose one response over another?

CONTENT + WORD COUNT

  • Popup title (maximum of ~7-10 words)

  • Leading text/question (maximum of ~25-30 words)

PRO TIP 💡

Evaluate whether it is helpful in impactful decisions also ask participants to provide their rationale for why they selected a specific option.
