See how you stack up! Learners can compare their performance with others, while facilitators use the leaderboard to spotlight team insights during debriefs.
Example Use Cases
Motivating Learners Through Competition – Learners can track their progress and compare their performance with peers, fostering a sense of achievement and encouraging friendly competition.
Facilitator-Led Debrief & Performance Analysis – Facilitators can use the leaderboard in debrief sessions to review team performance and guide discussions.
Encouraging Collaboration & Teamwork – In team-based learning experiences, leaderboards can highlight collective performance, motivating teams to work together effectively and improve their standing.
Driving Engagement & Retention – By introducing gamification elements, leaderboards make learning more interactive and engaging, increasing motivation and overall participation in the learning experiences.

DIY Steps
Set Up a Leaderboard in Studio (for Learners)
Add the Leaderboard to Your Wireflow
- In Studio, add a Pagebuilder or Slideshow element to your wireflow.
- Click Add Item, then select Data and choose Leaderboard.
- Note: The leaderboard will not display anything until it's configured.
Configure the Leaderboard
Click on the Leaderboard element in your wireflow to open the Editing Panel.
You can customize the leaderboard using the following settings:
Configuration OptionsTitle: Name your leaderboard—ideally tied to the metric being tracked.
Variable: Select the variable you want to display scores from.
Score Sorting: Choose to sort scores in ascending or descending order.
Round Precision: Set how many decimal places to round scores to.
Top Cards: Decide how many top learners to highlight at the top of the leaderboard.
List Limit: Set how many total learners will appear in the scrollable list (this is not the total number of learners, just how many are visible at once).
Note: Learners will always see their own ranking, even if they are not in the top cards or within the visible list limit. Their name will be shown in context with nearby scores, so they always know where they stand.
Show Progress by Round: Display score changes across rounds (only works if using the Current Total variable).
Show Team Score: Toggle on/off whether team scores should be show
Show Team Name: Toggle on/off whether team names should appear.
Add Multiple Leaderboards (Optional)
Want to display more than one metric? You can add multiple leaderboards to the same page or slide sequence:
In a Pagebuilder, create a new column and place another leaderboard inside.
In a Slideshow, add another leaderboard on a different slide.
Previewing the Leaderboard in Studio
When you preview the Leaderboard in Studio, it will display mock data by default—not real learner data. To see how the leaderboard works with actual scores, you’ll need to test it in SimPlayer, where real data is used.
Set Up a Leaderboard in Dashboard (for Facilitators)
From the wireflow, click the Settings icon in the top navigation.
In the left-hand menu, select Dashboard.
Click the plus (+) button to create and add a new Leaderboard as a Dashboard Report.
Set up the leaderboard just like you would in Studio—using the same configuration options for learners.
Facilitator Features
Facilitators can download the data shown on the leaderboard.
Note: Only the data currently visible in the leaderboard is included in the download.
A search feature allows facilitators to find specific teams or users to view their results.
These features are available in SimPreview, but are hidden from learners in SimPlayer.
FAQ
What metrics can be used for the leaderboard?
You can use any currently supported number-based variable in a leaderboard (e.g., number entry, slider, Likert scale, current course completions, rating, etc.). However, for tracking a team or user’s progress over time, we recommend using the metric outlined below.
Recommended Metric for the Leaderboard?
For the best experience, we recommend using the Current Total metric in your leaderboard. This metric shows the learner’s accumulated score at any point in time. If applied to a leaderboard at the end of a round, it will enable seeing the progression of teams/users from round to round, which is represented in the line graph and will appear in the data export.
While you can use the Isolated and End of Round Metrics in your leaderboard, here are a few things to consider:
Isolated Round Metrics
These only capture the score earned within a single round. Because learners start at zero each round, there's no connection between rounds—making it incompatible with the leaderboard’s line graph, which shows score progression. Additionally, leaderboard data export is not supported when using this metric.
End of Round Metrics
This metric can be used, but it also does not support the line progression graph or leaderboard data export. To work around this, you would need to create separate leaderboards for each round, and then an additional one for Current Total (in a separate column, page, or slide). This setup enables the graph and export but is more complex and harder to interpret for learners and facilitators.
Why doesn’t the leaderboard in Studio show the correct totals when I preview it?
When you preview the Leaderboard in Studio, it will display mock data by default—not real learner data. To see how the leaderboard works with actual scores, you’ll need to test it in SimPlayer, where real data is used.
What’s the maximum number of users or teams the leaderboard can handle?
The leaderboard supports up to 2,000 teams or individual users.
Why is my leaderboard showing empty rows?
Make sure the “row repeat” setting is turned off. The Leaderboard doesn’t support this, and it’s not needed for displaying all rows in the Leaderboard.
