How to: Navigating ReX Beta
Updated over 2 months ago

Learn the basics to successfully navigate ReX and create your first project!

Overview of ReX Beta Format

Welcome Page Instructions:

When a user first enters a project, there is a Welcome Page with instructions to help guide the user:

Templates + Steps

ReX consists of “template pages” and each “template page” has a series of “steps” that need to be completed.

There are two main sections of template pages: Prerequisites + Simulation Pages

  • Each "Prerequisite" is called a “template page”.

  • Your first steps are to thoughtfully complete the Prerequisite “template pages” and ensure agreement with the AI outputs in each step before moving forward to the Simulation “template pages” section.

  • Once you’ve completed all of the Prerequisites template pages and their steps, you will be able to complete the Simulation template pages for your learning experience.

ReX Icons

As you complete the prompts, you’ll notice icons in the top right of each step. Review what each icon does below.

Gear Icon

The gear icon has two tabs:

  1. ReX Prompts

    1. The ReX Prompts have been set up as the ideal default for content development and is suggested to leave as default.

  1. Contexts

    1. The Context tabs allow you to add “contexts” to the step for the AI to reference as part of the output.

Play Icon

The play icon is what initiates ReX to generate content after you've input the answers to the prompts. (think of this like the "enter" key)

Once you’ve answered the prompts, click the Play button to see the resulting outputs.

Refresh Icon

Once a prompt has been answered, or a selection has been made the Play button will turn into a refresh button. If you make any edits to a prompt, you will need to refresh subsequent steps for the edit to be referenced.

Editing Outputs

Once the AI has provided an output (based on the prompt), you can edit the output by clicking on the text in the output box.

Use the editing toolbar to format the option or use the ASK AI button to have the AI help you edit your output.

When you’re done editing, click "Save" to save your edits.

You can use the + button in an output to create a context. A context can be directly referenced at other steps OR within other templates.

New Project

  1. When you log in to ReX, click on New Project to create a new project.

  2. Choose the New Project Type: "Simulation"

    1. The other options are examples of templated project types that are "coming soon"!

  3. Name your project in the bottom left box. We suggest something like "My Module 2 Practice" since you might come back to this project later in your onboarding journey (after completing Modules 3 & 4 in SimGate Studio!).

  4. Click "Create Project"

  5. Your newly created project automatically opens!

Prerequisite steps

When you’re in a new project, there is a left-hand navigation that lists the Prerequisites. You must complete the Prerequisite steps before the simulation pages open up for you!

To begin, click on The Learner in the left navigation (under Prerequisites).

Follow the directions provided at each step.

Click on The PLAY ICON when you have answered each question and are ready to generate your ReX outputs.

Keep Going!

Move on to each subsequent step until you are complete with the Prerequisite section.

Create Your Activity Pages

Once a user completes the PreRequisite steps, instructions appear to direct the user to create their activity pages. You'll follow the same cadence to choose your Simulation Activity templates, complete the prompts, and generate your project's content.

Export your Content

Finally, export your content and paste it into SimGate Studio! Watch the magic happen as SimGate builds your project and inserts your content!

FAQ

ReX Pre-Work

To maximize efficiency, before diving into ReX you'll want to have some initial decisions made in response to six key questions.

Initial Decisions:

  • Who is the learner?

  • What are the intended skills, behaviors, or mindset shifts to practice and improve?

  • What are the learning objectives or outcomes?

  • What will the learners be measured on? (metrics/KPIs)

  • What is the main topic(s) and/or context?

  • What is the course format?

What do I do if the Prerequisite prompts are not aligned with my use case or scenario?

  • This current set of templates was designed for learning experiences within a business environment, so the prompts are geared towards that genre.

  • However, you can still use ReX for scenarios that are outside of the business environment and get quality content!

    • Use your best judgment to answer the prompts and use the ReX in-line editor to refine the output and align the content to the learning needs.

What Studio activity and page template options do I have in ReX Beta?

Users can export the following templates into Studio:

  • Welcome page

  • Topic Information Slideshow

  • Course of Action

  • Scenario

  • ListBuider

  • Addon: Decision Rationale

  • Addon: Perspectives

💡 ReX Beta TIPS!

By following these best practices, you can effectively maximize the utility of ReX’s fit-for-purpose prompting and scenario-based learning outputs!

  • Be specific: Add details, adjectives, and keywords to your prompts to help ReX understand the specifics of your focus and to generate context-rich responses.

  • Experiment with variations: If you’re not satisfied with the initial outputs, try different prompts, add descriptors, or provide extra context to explore diverse perspectives on a topic.

  • Review and refine: Take time to polish ReX's outputs for optimal alignment with your goals, needs, and storyline (use the inline editor!).

  • Human Input: Remember that ReX is your co-author, a tool meant to assist human users. Your input, validation, and refinement play a crucial role in shaping the quality and relevance of the generated outputs.
