How to: Create a New ReX Smart Template Project

Updated this week

Starting from a ReX Smart Template streamlines your workflow and fast tracks the discovery, design and development of your projects!

Creating a New Project

Starting from a ReX Smart Template via the Home Page

Starting from a ReX Smart Template streamlines your workflow for faster prototyping, launch from a single point that links ReX to Studio, and are organized on the Portal Home page (and in “My Projects”) for easy access and management.

If you have never created a project before, you will see a screen that says “Design your first project.”

To get started, you should:

Follow the steps below to create your new project.

Create a New Project

  • Click the blue “+” icon at the bottom of the screen.

  • Select the project type you want, then click “Use this template”

  • Note: All projects that you created on this page are saved in your "My Projects" folder.

  • Note: Not all projects shown on the home page are yours—these include any projects created from the home page and auto-generated by ReX across all users in your enterprise.

Rename Your Project

  • The selected template will appear at the top of the screen.

  • To rename the project and change the image, click the pencil icon in the top right corner. Then click the checkmark to save.

Begin Authoring

  • Click the “Discovery + Design” button to open your project in ReX and begin adding content.

Begin Developing

  • After completing the Discovery & Design phase, click the Develop button to start or continue building your project in Studio.

      • Note: You can only use Develop if your project is complete in ReX, linked to Studio, and successfully imported. Once that’s done, clicking Develop will take you into Studio to continue your work.

🚨 ALERT! Because of how the Homepage functions and the auto-linked nature of projects created this way, you cannot duplicate the Studio project after it has been exported (and further development updates have been made/completed). You can only duplicate the ReX-generated content within ReX.

➡️ If you anticipate needing to duplicate the final project for future reuse, updates, translations, backups, or testing, we recommend creating your project directly in the ReX tool instead (instructions below) and "unlinking" your project to Studio during the export.

Future State: ReX 2 (Coming 2026)

In the upcoming version of ReX:

  • There will be a single, unified project portal—ReX projects and Studio projects will no longer exist separately.

  • Project management actions, like sharing, duplicating, and updates, will all be handled within this unified experience.

Creating a New Project in Directly in ReX

Note: If you start with this process, you’ll need to manually export this to Studio, as it does not sync automatically. HOWEVER, you will be able to Duplicate your Studio project after export. Follow the steps in this article for assistance exporting your ReX project to Studio!

  1. When you log in to ReX, click on New Project to create a new project.

  2. Choose the New Project Template Type of your choice.

  3. Name your project in the bottom left box. We suggest something like "My Module 2 Practice" since you might come back to this project later in your onboarding journey (after completing Modules 3 & 4 in SimGate Studio!).

  4. Click "Create Project"

  5. Your newly created project automatically opens!
