What are the best practices and ways to get started designing a course using Studio?

Studio Designers will want to begin thinking about the Design Process from a holistic perspective. Below is a high-level overview of best practices when designing. For a more detailed process document, go here:

Prepare

Key Design Questions

Prior to diving into SimGate, it is essential to define the following questions:

  1. Have an understanding of who your learner is

    1. Who is the learner? What are their challenges?

    2. What are the intended mindset shifts?

    3. What are the intended learner outcomes or goals?

  2. Have an understanding of what type of feedback you want to give the learner

    1. What are the measured metrics and learner feedback?

    2. View sample reports for ideas for feedback reports

  3. Create a high-level design before getting into Studio

    1. What are the key topics of the learning experience?

    2. What is the overarching storyline?

    3. How many rounds and what are the themes of each round?

    4. What are the essential background documents? (Leadership Framework, etc.)

  4. Know your branding to set the theme for the project

    1. What will be the look and feel of the course?

Design + Develop

  1. Build the wire flow based on your high-level design

  2. Add activities + edit your content

  3. Add engagement enhancements (perspectives, add-on builders, etc.)

Build Scoring + Feedback

  1. Review the scoring model basics and then, assign a “score” to answer options.

  2. Build your feedback page using Page Builder and link the scoring model to your outputs.

Iterate+ Test + Deploy

  1. Preview your project and iterate until complete.

  2. Create a release, publish, and finalize your project.
